Terms of service

Last updated: 14 September 2026

Listen is provided by Listen App (“we”, “us” and “our”). These terms explain the conditions for using the Listen website, apps and connected services. Contact us at hello@getlisten.co with questions about these terms.

Using Listen

Listen turns text you choose into audio and summaries, and helps you save articles and reading positions. These terms apply when you use those services. You must be legally able to enter into this agreement, or have a parent or guardian’s permission where required. If you use Listen for an organisation, you must have authority to act for it.

The licence for an app downloaded from Apple’s App Store is governed by Apple’s Standard End User Licence Agreement. These service terms supplement that licence; they do not replace it or override rights that the licence or applicable law gives you. Open-source components remain subject to their respective licences.

Your account

You can use available guest features without signing in. Account features require accurate account information and access to your chosen sign-in method. Keep your sign-in codes and devices secure, and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. Do not sell or share account access, impersonate someone else, or create accounts to evade usage limits. Your listening allowance and subscription are associated with your Listen account across supported devices.

Articles and other content

Only ask Listen to process content that you are entitled to access and use for that purpose. Access to an article does not necessarily give you permission to reproduce or distribute it. Respect the publisher’s rights, privacy and applicable terms. Listen does not bypass paywalls, access restrictions or private accounts.

You and the relevant rights holders retain your rights in the content. By choosing to process or save content, you give us permission to handle it, and use our service providers to handle it, only as needed to provide the requested features, store your saved reading and keep your devices in sync. This does not transfer ownership of your content to us or grant you new rights in a publisher’s work. Do not distribute generated audio or summaries unless you have the necessary rights.

Acceptable use

Use Listen lawfully and without interfering with other people or the service. You must not use it to infringe intellectual property or privacy rights, distribute unlawful content or malware, attempt unauthorised access, evade security or payment controls, or overload the service with automated bulk requests. Listen’s consumer plans are for personal reading, not resale or operating a bulk narration service.

Free listening and Listen Pro

Listen Free currently includes 2,000 narrated words each week, shared across your devices. Listen Pro offers monthly and annual subscriptions with unlimited words for personal reading. Pro does not impose an individual weekly word allowance. Network availability, request limits and safeguards against abuse still apply; unlimited words is not a promise of unlimited simultaneous processing or uninterrupted availability.

The features, price, billing period and any offer conditions shown before you confirm a purchase apply to that purchase. Subscription availability and pricing may vary by storefront. We will not charge a higher price for a paid period already purchased. Any renewal price changes will follow the billing provider’s notice and consent requirements and applicable law.

Billing, cancellation and refunds

Apple processes subscriptions purchased in the iPhone app and charges your Apple Account. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before renewal. To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage or cancel through Apple’s subscription settings. Following cancellation, access normally continues until the end of the paid period unless Apple refunds or revokes the purchase.

Deleting Listen or deleting your Listen account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Cancel the subscription separately. Use Restore purchases while signed in to the Listen account associated with the purchase if access needs to be restored.

You can request a refund for an Apple purchase through Apple’s refund service. You can also contact us about a service problem or a remedy you believe you are entitled to. Nothing in these terms removes any refund, cancellation or other rights you have under applicable consumer law.

Website subscriptions

Website subscriptions are sold through Polar as merchant of record. Sign in to the Listen account you use in the apps before checkout. The selected price, currency, billing period and applicable taxes are shown before you confirm payment. A monthly or annual subscription renews automatically until cancelled.

To manage payment details, view invoices or cancel renewal, sign in to your Listen account and choose Manage web subscription, or use the billing-portal link in your Polar receipt. Cancel before the next renewal to avoid the next charge. Access normally continues until the end of the paid period. Deleting the app or your Listen account does not cancel a subscription; cancel it separately before deleting your account.

For refund requests or billing problems, contact hello@getlisten.co with your receipt. Your statutory consumer rights continue to apply. Apple purchases are managed through Apple, and web purchases through Polar.

Generated results and availability

Narration, text extraction and summaries can contain mistakes, omit context or mispronounce words. Check the original source when accuracy matters. A summary or narration is a reading aid and is not a substitute for professional advice or the original publisher’s information.

Online narration and account sync require an internet connection. Bookmarking an article does not guarantee an offline audio download or continued access to the original website. Third-party pages and services can change, and some pages may not work with Listen. We will use reasonable care and skill in providing the service, but cannot promise that every page is supported or that there will never be an interruption.

Privacy and advertising measurement

Our privacy policy explains how we handle account details, selected content, narration and subscription information. On iPhone, optional Meta advertising measurement requires your tracking permission. Declining that permission does not limit your reading features, and you can change it in iPhone settings.

Closing or restricting an account

You can stop using Listen at any time and delete your account from Account settings. See our support page for instructions and data requests. Keep any original content you need; Listen is not a permanent archive.

We may restrict access when reasonably necessary to address a material breach of these terms, fraud, a security threat or a legal requirement. Where practical and lawful, we will explain the reason and give you an opportunity to resolve the issue. Contact us if you believe a restriction is mistaken. Account restrictions do not remove your consumer rights or any entitlement to a refund or other remedy.

Changes to the service or these terms

We may update Listen and these terms to reflect product changes, security needs or legal requirements. We will provide reasonable advance notice of material changes through the app, website or your account contact details, unless an urgent security or legal issue requires a faster change. Changes apply prospectively. If a change materially reduces a service you have paid for, contact us about continued access, cancellation or an appropriate remedy. You can cancel future subscription renewals through the provider you purchased from at any time.

Your consumer rights

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law. Depending on the circumstances, these may include a right to have a service problem corrected, cancel a service, obtain a refund or receive compensation. We do not require you to waive those rights or agree to a blanket “no refunds” policy.

If there is a problem, contact hello@getlisten.co so we can try to resolve it. You remain free to use a relevant consumer protection agency, tribunal or court. If a provision of these terms is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue only to the extent they can fairly and lawfully operate.
